Research Compliance – Policy and Procedures

Bar-Ilan University is committed to promoting high-quality, ethical, and responsible research, in accordance with the highest standards of scientific integrity and regulatory compliance.
Our policies and procedures reflect the university’s core values and aim to ensure a safe, transparent, and fair research environment.

Key areas of research compliance include:

Compliance with Funder Requirements

Bar-Ilan University is committed to meeting all ethical, regulatory, and reporting obligations required by research funders—both public and private. Fulfilling these requirements is essential to maintaining the trust funding agencies, research partners, and the wider public.

Conflict of Interest

Researchers at BIU must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest—financial, personal, or professional—that may influence the design, conduct, or reporting of research. Failure to disclose such conflicts may undermine research integrity and result in disciplinary consequences.

Research Misconduct

The university enforces strict policies to prevent and address scientific misconduct, including data fabrication or falsification, plagiarism, idea theft, and interference with the work of others. Proven misconduct may lead to disciplinary measures.

Human Research Subjects

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is responsible for reviewing and approving all research involving human participants. The IRB is composed of academic faculty, public representative and administrative, and its role is to ensure the rights, privacy, and well-being of all participants.

Use of Animals in Research

The university ensures that animals used in research are treated humanely, in compliance with both Israeli law and international standards. Policies are in place to minimize harm and ensure ethical care.

Environmental Health and Biosafety

Bar-Ilan has implemented biosafety procedures designed to reduce or eliminate exposure to hazardous biological materials in laboratory settings and ensure lab safety. These include guidelines for research involving infectious diseases and recombinant DNA.
